Do you agree with the St. Pete Times that legislators "have much to be ashamed of"?

The St. Petersburg Times editorial board published a strongly worded editorial today castigating the legislature for failing to show leadership in this time of crisis.  Read the editorial here and then share your opinion with other CIVIC members.

Florida Legislators

I cannot believe the Floriday Legislators have the guts to produce a budget that does not meet the need of the voters here in Florida. The Unemployed have been left behind while the legislators leave $440 million dollars in stimulus money on the table. They eliminated funding of the Library System here in Florida. They fail to close any of the loop holes in the tax system which would have paid for the Library System. I am ashamed to say these people represent the working people here in Florida

Florida legislators

The $440 million was left on the table because there were many strings attached to it. Florida would in the end pay more interest on this money plus eventually the Federal Government would take over the unemployment  compensation program . The Federal Government would then dictate how we run the program and how much we owe. The Legislature did the right thing!

I think  the Legislature was wrong in increasing car and truck registration by 35%. Legislators will definitely hear this back home.

Finally, try being a Legislator for 2 months and not have everyone back home mad at you because you had to cut the budget by $6 billion. It's impossible.
